Governor Ed Rendell is praising state-owned and state-related universities for holding the line on tuition increases.
Rendell says state-owned and state-related universities are being affected by the recession, as well:
“And for them to have gone out of their way to keep tuition at a manageable figure, even with the financial burdens and the loss of revenue that they were facing, is very significant.”
Tuition will be going up 3.7-percent for 112,000 students at the fourteen state-owned universities, which include Cheyney and West Chester.
Three state-related schools announced tuition hikes as well. Penn State’s tuition increase will range from 3.7-percent to 4.5-percent depending on campus and residency status. Pitt’s tuition will rise four-percent, and Temple’s will go up 2.9-percent.
But all three schools say they may have to revisit tuition depending on what happens with the state budget.
