Guilty Plea in Montco ''Beer Pong'' Murder

by KYW's Brad Segall

A 24-year-old Montgomery County man has admitted that he shot and killed his friend during an argument following a drinking game inside a Bridgeport, Pa. home in early May.

Joseph Jimenez (above) admitted in court that he knew the gun was loaded when he fired the silver .40-caliber Taurus, striking 25-year-old Scott Riley in the neck.

Prosecutors say the two men were part of a group of people playing “beer pong” inside a house on West Second Street when the argument broke out. It spilled into an alley where the shot was fired (see previous story).

Defense attorney Brendan Campbell says his client is remorseful:

"He had a very close relationship with Scott -- a unique relationship -- and it’s something he’s going to have to live with the rest of his life, the fact that Scott’s blood is on his hand.”

Jimenez pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and carrying a gun without a license.

Outside the courtroom, a family friend said Jimenez has a family that loves him and this has been difficult on both families. He faces a maximum 47 years in jail when he’s sentenced later this year.
