New Phillies' lefthanded pitcher Cliff Lee makes his home debut on Thursday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. And judging from sales at the Phillies merchandise store, plenty of fans heading to the game want to have his name on their backs.
"Lee 34" jerseys are hot now, especially after his complete-game gem in his Phils' debut last Friday, on the road.
Sonja Davis, from Millville, NJ, was coveting a Lee jersey at the Phillies' clubhouse store:
"He pitched a fabulous game. That was fabulous. That made me have a little more faith in their starting pitching."
Store manager Francis Winkey (above) says the cash registers are ringing -- at $209 each for an authentic Lee jersey, $119 for replicas, and $25 for t-shirts:
"We've sold several dozen already this week, and, last night's game was big. Tonight will be bigger. And then tomorrow, when he's actually on the hill, we hope to do a lot."
The last Phillie to wear #34 was pitcher Freddy Garcia. And you can bet the house, Harry -- the Lee jerseys will outsell Freddy's.
