Former 76er standout Darryl Dawkins was back in Philadelphia recently to promote awareness about the problems associated with high blood pressure.
Dawkins says he suffers from high blood pressure and as a result, he's working to promote the web site www.bpsuccesszone.com -- a site that provides information about high blood pressure and how to deal with it.
Dawkins says the African American community is especially susceptible to high blood pressure:
“In black communities, it’s known as the silent community. It’s known as the silent killer. And some of them know they have it and don't want to do anything about it. And some of them don't know until something really bad happens. It’s something that needs to be addressed within the community.”
Dawkins is on a strict medical regiment, and says he works with his family to ensure that he manages his diet.
