Theatrical Prop Caused Sunday's PHL Airport Evacuation

by KYW's Kim Glovas

Philadelphia police say the evacuation of two terminals at Philadelphia International Airport on Sunday was all because of a fake bomb used in a local theatre production over the weekend.

The fake bomb was apparently in the luggage of a dance group named "Hijack."  The group had performed at the Wilma Theatre in Philadelphia on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, and was heading back to their hometown in Minneapolis, Minn. on Sunday morning.

That's when the discovery was made in the luggage, causing concerned security officials to evacuate two entire terminals -- B and C -- at the airport (see related story).

It took officials about an hour to determine that the luggage was harmless. Officials say delays were kept to an hour or less on most flights.

Philadelphia police say no charges have been filed against anyone at this time.
