Judge Rebuffs Fumo Bid to Delay Prison Term

A federal judge has denied a bid by former state senator Vince Fumo to delay the start of his prison term. Fumo's lawyer had asked for the delay because Fumo needs medical detoxification for an addiction to a prescription drug.

But Judge Ronald Buckwalter ruled there is plenty of time for the procedure before Fumo reports to prison on August 31st.

Fumo commented on his impending prison term at a party on Wednesday night celebrating his engagement to Carolyn Zinni:

"What I have ahead of my doesn't make me happy, but it's something we're prepared to live with, and go forward, and just get on with our lives."

Fumo was sentenced to 55 months in prison on corruption charges, although prosecutors are seeking to appeal to lengthen that sentence.
