Wine Tasting Pairs Area's Young Jews With Synagogues
|
by KYW's Hadas Kuznits
A wine tasting event aims to match young area Jews with synagogues for the upcoming Jewish New Year.
About a dozen synagogues and clubs participated in "A Taste of the New Year" at the Gershman Y, at Broad and Pine Streets.
Volunteer Deborah Gordon Klehr says that if ever there was a time to become affiliated with a synagogue, it's during the Jewish high holidays:
"This is an opportunity for young adults in Philadelphia who are not yet affiliated with a synagogue to learn about the different synagogues in Philadelphia."
Susan Stanek, with the Jewish Federation, describes the event as a matchmaking party between Jews and synagogues, which are offering free holiday tickets:
"We have synagogues that range from reform, conservative, and reconstructionist, to unaffiliated synagogues that create their own sense of Judaism as well, in addition to independent prayer sessions that are located in the city."
For more information or for synagogue tickets, call 215-832-0597.
