Revitalization Projects Continue in North Camden

by KYW's Karin Phillips

A long term plan to revitalize North Camden has taken a big step forward with the start of greening projects in neighborhood parks.

Dozens of neighborhood residents are lined up to begin a celebration after the cleanup of a neighborhood park at 2nd and York Streets, part of a number of park projects throughout North Camden, which is part of a larger plan to revitalize the area.

Gwendolyn Harris is assistant director of the Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs at Rutgers University Camden.

"Not only do they meet to help clean the area, they also meet to plan what's going to go on the land and what's going to go on the empty vacant lots that are in the community."

Bryan Morton has lived in the 2nd and York neighborhood all of his 38 years. He says it's about keeping people involved.

"We're organizing with community members the design of the park so what do they want to see? What uses need to be there?"
