Widener University in Chester, Pa. and Beijing University of Technology in China have signed an agreement to establish the greater Philadelphia region's first Confucius Institute.
Confucius Institutes are non-profit organizations dedicated to Chinese language, Chinese culture and educational exchanges between China and other countries.
Widener University president James Harris:
"And the hope is that we will have it opened in the spring. This will also be used for not just Widener students and faculty but also for business men and woman in the area and also school children."
Harris will be going to Beijing to meet with the ministry of education which promotes the Confucius Institutes world wide. There are more than 300 in 81 countries.
