Despite False Internet Rumor, Montco SPCA is Running Just Fine

by KYW's Brad Segall

There are "Montgomery Counties" in several states across the country, and some confusion in that regard led many people in this area to think the SPCA here was closing and the animals were going to be killed.

That’s not the case.

Carmen Ronio, executive director of the SPCA in Montgomery County, Pa., says the phone started ringing off the hook Tuesday when rumors started swirling on the Internet about a shelter closing and the animals being euthanized.

He says they had to bring in a handful of helpers to answer the calls and reassure people in this area that it wasn’t happening here:

"Animal-wise, our animals are safe and sound.  We have an extremely high adoption rate for my dogs -- our dogs are 96 percent adoptable and our cats are at 75 percent adoption rates.”

Ronio says the doors aren’t closing.  In fact, he says, they just celebrated their 100th anniversary on Monday night.

The shelter that’s closing is a government-run operation in Montgomery County, Texas, and Ronio says he's been told all of the animals were adopted.
