Pennsylvania gaming regulators have allowed a Poconos casino owner to turn over control of his facility to his daughter as part of a deal with prosecutors who dropped charges against him.
Gaming Control Board spokesman Richard McGarvey says the board has approved transfer of ownership of the Mt. Airy Casino Resort from Louis DeNaples to a trust controlled by his daughter, Lisa, that’s expected to eventually include more of his children.
McGarvey says the transfer is part of a deal with the Dauphin County DA’s office, which resulted in criminal charges against DeNaples being dropped:
“Certainly, that was part of what started this process, along with, prior to that, Mr. DeNaples had been doing some estate planning. So it all came together in this particular ruling.”
While DeNaples will cede control, he will still be licensed by the gaming board because he is the ‘guarantor’ of loans for the casino project.
In April, the Dauphin County DA dropped charges alleging that Louis DeNaples had lied about his connections to crime figures during the casino application process.
