The Tinicum Township Fire Company, in Essington (Delaware County), Pa., is hosting an unconventional flu clinic here.
"It's exciting. It's a little different."
Beth Smith (above left), with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, says they are administering the shots "drive-thru" style:
"The people drive up, have their sleeves already rolled up, and they are able to get their shot and just move on. It's a lot less waiting time than in a physician's office."
And she says it's just as safe:
"It's just like -- there's no difference in administering it here or at work, where we do it at the state health center."
Those receiving shots are handed a consent form and are triple-screened with a series of questions before being waved through to the nurses' station:
"Then, once they're ready, they roll up their sleeve and they're ready to go, we give them their shot and they're on their way!"
The free drive-thru clinic, at 99 Wanamaker Avenue in Essington, will be open on Friday from 10am to 2pm.
