Protestors Gathered to Denounce Current Gun Laws

by KYW’s John McDevitt

A demonstration to protest the easy accessibility of guns took place on Independence Mall Sunday afternoon.

At noon a group of protestors wearing sashes in the colors of Virginia Tech, one by one lay down on the sidewalk representing the 32 people killed in Virginia tech shooting. They stayed down for three minutes symbolizing the time it took for the gunmen to go on his shooting rampage.

Hope Bennett of Ambler is running "The Philadelphia 32" for www.protesteasyguns.com. She says the group is bound together by their anger and frustration regarding the existing gun laws:

"What we want is to bring just some basic common sense to gun laws. It’s crazy you don't need any registration, you don't need any permits.  If you have a hand gun, you can get a permit to carry it concealed. That makes no sense.”

The rally went on the same time as two others in McLean, Virginia and Silver Spring, Maryland.
