A little-known chemistry museum in Philadelphia's Old City neighborhood celebrates its first anniversary.
Chemical Heritage Foundation president Tom Tritton says the museum aims to show visitors how chemistry is useful and even interesting:
"People think of chemistry, they think of test tubes and colored liquids and boiling solutions and maybe instruments and of course that is kind of an iconic stereotype of chemistry, but in the museum that we're looking at now, chemistry is represented by materials because all of the modern wonders of the world that we live in are really fundamentally based on chemical processes."
The museum at 315 Chestnut Street is well known around the world, but not so much in Philadelphia:
"You know, I meet people all the time and they say I've always wondered what it was."
Tritton says consider this your personal invitation:
"Come on in and check it out because it's really cool!"
And it's really free. For more information, go to www.chemheritage.org.
