Bad news is sometimes a catalyst to do extraordinary things. And so it is with education in Philadelphia. There are lots of people with passion trying to help with educating kids.
To get the story out and to learn what others are doing, a group of educators – many outside the schools– have decided to showcase some innovative ideas. It’s hard not to be impressed -- and inspired.
They’re a varied group - artists, writers, computer wizards, dancers, leaders of museums, urban farmers, advertising execs, and a host of others talking about what they are doing to help improve the education of Philly’s young people. Twelve of them will describe their programs – five minutes each with 20 slides to punctuate their talk at the University of the Arts on October 12th at 6 pm.
They’re calling it NxtUp Education, a Lazy Susan of educators. But, it’s not about an event. It’s a way to learn what is going on, to share what they’ve learned, and to build a community of change and hope and to keep going.
