Dozens of demonstrators gathered Thursday outside Philadelphia's Municipal Services Building, across from City Hall, to protest the lack of a state budget after 100 days (see related story).
Joseph Rogers is with the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania:
"It's becoming a situation where we might have to go out of business and not be able to provide the services for people with serious and persistent mental illness. We're not talking about people that are just sort of having problems; we're talking about people with diagnoses of schizophrenia or manic-depression."
Matthew Teter is executive director for Calcutta House, an AIDS residency program:
"We are in a situation where, if we go one day without our medications for our residents, that's a serious issue. That is a situation that puts the health of our residents in immediate danger."
Organizers from the Southeast Coalition of Essential Services are asking Pennsylvanians to contact their state legislators and let them know how serious the situation is "on the ground."
Letty Thall is executive director of the Maternity Care Coalition:
"We need a budget, and we need it today!"
