Suspect in Murder of Phila. Girl Added to FBI's 10 Most Wanted List

by KYW's John Ostapkovich

The FBI has added a 31-year-old handyman to its 10 Most Wanted list -- the man is sought for the murder of a Philadelphia girl in 2000.

The announcement came from Jody Weis, special agent in charge in the FBI's Philadelphia office:

"I'm really proud to announce the addition of Alexis Flores, also known as Mario Flores, to our Top 10 fugitive list. Flores is being sought for his alleged involvement in the brutal murder of a five-year-old female.  He should be considered armed and extremely dangerous."

The murder of Iriana DeJesus occured in July of 2000; her body was not discovered until the following month, and DNA connecting Flores (above) to the crime was not verified until March of this year.

Philadelphia police commissioner Sylvester Johnson is glad for the FBI's help:

"This is a very brutal type murder."

Flores, a native of Honduras, is described in the wanted poster as 130-140 lbs., 5' 4" tall, with black hair and brown eyes and scars on his forehead and right cheek.

Weis says Flores is now on the Top 10 list because he's a severe threat to society and because the list's high profile may result in his capture. A reward of up to $100,000 is being offered.
