A Central High School sophomore in Philadelphia will turn over a check Wednesday for over $1,000, money he and his fellow students collected to buy silly string for soldiers in Iraq.
Nathan Dorfman, president of Central High School's sophomore class, began coordinating a Silly String fund, after he heard about last December's plea from Marcelle Shriver of Stratford, New Jersey,to collect Silly String or the funds to buy it to help save the life of her son and other US soldiers serving in Iraq. Silly String enables soldiers to detect trip-wires.
Dorfman and his fellow students have collected over $1,000 and will present a check to Shriver at Wednesday morning's sophomore assembly:
"What amazes me about this is the power that students have. Because in general, people might not expect that much from high schoolers. But I'm showing that we can do it."
