The Second Nor' Easter in a Week Hits the Shore

by KYW's Michelle Durham

New Jersey's shore communities were bracing for this bad weather all week and it looks like all the preparation was not in vain. The water is rising (see related story).

Sergeant Patrick Gorman of the New Jersey State police:

"There is limited access getting onto and off the barrier islands and that's really contingent on the tide as it stands right now some of the areas are not accessible."

Access to and from Ocean City, Sea Isle City, the Wildwoods and Cape May are blocked for the most part because of high water although officials do have emergency vehicles that can be used to push through in case of emergency and there are reports of motorists having to be rescued from their cars because of high water.

Frank McCall is Director of Emergency management for Cape May County:

"They should not be traversing in high water. Hopefully by now everyone got the notification to move their car; salt water damage to cars can be significant. And we want people to know that even though this afternoon it looks like it might be ebbing a bit, we have three more tides to deal with."

McCall says they are also experiencing beach erosion, but they'll wait until Sunday to assess that.
