Leaves Change Colors in Parks Across the Delaware Valley

by KYW’s Brad Segall

If you’re into leaf peeping during the fall season, the Delaware Valley and Montgomery County in particular have some great locations to get a good look at the bright, brilliant colors.

Valley Forge National Historical Park is awash in brilliant golds, reds and oranges as the leaves begin to turn during the autumn season. That brings out thousands of people packing cameras and even artists who set up easels in the park to capture the beautiful colors on canvas.

The Park’s Natural Resources Manager Kristina Heister says Valley Forge was named one of the ten most photogenic parks in the country for fall foliage:

“Most of our forests here are hardwood forests so they contain things like oaks and hickory and dogwood and tulip poplar; all types of trees that have tremendous colors in the fall.”

She says our damp warm spring is responsible for the beautiful colors we see now. Peak time is the last two weeks of October. Other great locations are Fort Washington State Park, the Perkiomen Trail, Green Lane Park and the Audubon Center at Mill Grove.
