If you hear enough of my stories you know that I am a big believer that there is no better way to stay in shape and have a high energy level than exercising on a regular basis. The best way to stay away from chronic health problems that put you in the hospital is to exercise, but there are also risks to staying in shape.
One of the biggest risks is that people try to cram exercise into an already packed week. As a result they find themselves pushing too hard without proper warm-up time or they try to do too much in a short period of time. The classic case is the weekend warrior who tries to do it all on Saturday or Sunday.
One of the keys to a successful exercise program is to build slowly. Another major way to avoid injury is to do a little bit of exercise every day. I am not talking about an hour a day, maybe all you can do is a fifteen minute walk or ten minutes on a bicycle. It is consistency that matters.
