A Lower Merion, Pa. chiropractor will spend at least 7½ years in state prison for trying to hire a hitman to kill his wife.
Montgomery County judge Steven O’Neill called this case "a sad, chilling tale of domestic abuse." He says that Alan Kushner continues to be a threat to his wife and two children, and his only remorse is that he got caught.
Kushner, 59, was sentenced on Friday to 7½ to 20 years behind bars. Prosecutor Tom McGoldrick is pleased with the sentence:
"The judge certainly understood the gravity of the crime, the danger that the victim was in and continues to be in. And he fully appreciated all of that and crafted a just sentence.”
Sarran Kushner was shot in the driveway of her Bala Cynwyd home in May of last year (see related story). A jury found her husband had nothing to do with that, but convicted him of trying to hire someone to finish the job because they were going through a bitter divorce.
The gunman has never been found.
