Tricks with Sticks for a Halloween Treat

by KYW's Phran Novelli

Want some quick Halloween decorations that are free?  Check out your garden.

If you have dried, dead flowers in your plant pots, bring them all to your front door to welcome trick-or-treaters with a display that would make Morticia Addams proud.

To add drama to your floral display of the dead and dying, head out to your yard and collect the gnarly branches that have been dropping from trees during our recent windy rain storms.  Just poke the branches into your plant pots among the dead roses and desiccated petunias or stick larger ones in the ground next to your house to cast appropriately creepy shadows – curved branches from beech trees look particularly spooky.

You’ll be all decorated for Halloween; your lawn will be free of debris that trick-or-treaters might otherwise trip on in the dark, and when Halloween’s over, you can snap the branches into kindling to use for a fire on the next chilly night.
