Phillies Prez Admits, Maybe Myers Incident DID Happen

by KYW's Michelle Durham

Phillies president David Montgomery is now refuting some of the comments made earlier by team co-owner Bill Giles, about the domestic abuse allegations against pitcher Brett Myers.

A  contrite David Montgomery (above) blames a miscommunication between himself and Giles during a brief Sunday morning telephone conversation for the comments Giles made, saying he doesn't believe the incident happened and that Phillies marketing manager Debbie Nocito insisted Myers didn't grab or hit his wife (see previous story).

Montgomery wants to clarify Nocito's account:

"I do want to say that there were several people there including somebody that worked for us, and what Debbie said very clearly -- and I think that this is part of the police report -- was simply that she did not see that.   She did not indicate that it did not happen, frankly, but that she herself did not see that."

Montgomery blames himself for Giles' misunderstanding, and he wants to make it clear that he is taking this still-open domestic violence case very seriously.

Brett Myers is facing domestic abuse charges stemming from an incident a few weeks ago on a street corner in Boston.
