The World Series appears to be a win-win for those who own bars and restaurants, and those who patronize them. There are specials everywhere!
Heather Derussy owns a bar called The Institute, at 12th and Green Streets:
"We're doing $3 draft beers across the board -- anything from Yuengling to any of our craft beers. We're doing $5 orders of our pork fries, boneless wings, and regular bone-in wings. And we're taking $2 off all of our sandwiches."
Three-dollar drafts are a typical enticement for customers, but Rum Bar on Rittenhouse Square is going a step further: half-price draft beers plus signed 8x10s of Phillies players.
Across the river in Collingswood, NJ, Connie Fisher of the Pop Shop (right) is keeping the focus on food by bringing back a specialty sandwich she introduced during last year's World Series:
"A four-decker grilled cheese with a split soft Philly pretzel roll, alternating layers of cheesesteak meat and cheese whiz and onion rings. And the onion rings symbolize the World Series ring. Hot horseradish sauce, and on top an onion that stands straight up, symbolizing the trophy."
Proprieters are clearly getting creative as they attempt to take advantage of Phillies fever!
