NJ Gubernatorial Candidate Christie Gets on the Bus for Votes

by KYW's David Madden

New Jersey republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie (right photo) is stumping for support in South Jersey during a week long bus tour of the state in advance of Tuesday’s election.

In Elmer, Salem County, Christie’s bus was greeted not just by his own backers, but some 30 union carpenters, supporters of his opponent, Jon Corzine (above, left). One engaged Christie over his tax and spending cut proposal.

{What’s your plan?} “My plan is to go down.  We’ve already identified 6 and a half billion dollars in cuts that you can make, and we’ll go down there.  We’ve got to look at every program to make sure we get savings. That’s it. There’s no easy way to do it, except to start saying no on spending money.”

Inside the Elmer Diner, Christie suggested this final week is much like a closing argument a prosecutor would make to a jury. And just like his days as US Attorney, he’s willing to leave his fate in the hands of the voters next week. But, since the race is close, he urged his supporters to keep talking the election up this weekend.
