Barbershop Quartet Going Strong in Phila.

by KYW’s Hadas Kuznits

The art of the barbershop quartet is alive and well in Philadelphia.

Dave Toffe with the Sounds of Liberty says his barbershop chorus is relevant for today:

"It's really fun music.  It's lighthearted, it's filled with great chords, and it's really fun to sing."

Toffe's son Dave says they practice each week in Northeast Philadelphia, and he adds that it's quality time spent with dad:

"I was enrolled in this because my brother was doing it with my dad before I was and they had a lot of fun.  And then my brother moved to college and I had to fill the void.  Sso it's not only something that I share with my dad but also my brother."

(Kuznits:) "Has it brought you closer?"

"Yeah.  I mean, it's a lot more time with your dad because we're both pretty busy with everything else."

The Toffes say the chorus is always open to new members.  For more information go to www.harmonize.com/sol.
