Some Young Job Seekers Are Purging Their MySpace Page

by KYW's Paul Kurtz

There is danger lurking for young people entering the work force. Some very personal and risqué MySpace postings can come back to haunt people on the hunt for that first job.

Sure, it seemed like a great idea at the time, but posting that salacious photo of yourself is looking more and more like a dumb thing to do now that you're out of college and looking for work. This law school student thinks his website is pretty tame:

"Just pictures of me, maybe with a beer or two, but nothing crazy."

And this guy wised up:

"I took all my stuff off of there."

(Kurtz): "And what did you not want them to see?"

"Me drinking in a diaper."

Definitely something you don't want that prospective employer to see. And now, we find that an increasing number of bosses are peeking at job applicants MySpace pages. Temple University Psychologist Frank Farley says he understands their intent, but wonders if they may be going too far:

"Off hours life from the past shouldn't be so relevant. I think it's excessively probing into the lives of people."

On the other hand, Farley says MySpace can be a useful look in weeding out criminals.
