Pat's Steaks has steak sandwiches "wid" cheese, but they've apparently been without the legal right to offer outdoor seating at the famed South Philly location. And they're not alone.
Apparently, until now no one thought to check. But the outdoor tables at which Pat's Steaks patrons have been chowing down for years have never been legal.
Councilman Frank DiCicco says a recent check by Licenses and Inspections turned up that Pat's never had the right to put those tables out:
"Someone from L & I did an inspection and found that the sidewalk tables were not legal."
Dunn: "Years of competition between Pat's and Geno's, did L & I look at Geno's?"
"L & I looked at both. L & I cited Geno's for similar violations. And we're working on legislation to legalize that outdoor seating area as well."
So city council's Streets Committee on Thursday approved a bill that finally gives Pat's Steaks permission to have outdoor tables. The measure now goes to the full Council, and a similar bill for Geno's is on its way.
