With more schools using computers, educators are looking at differences in how the sexes learn online. Research found that girls like computers for social interaction and boys for games and entertainment.
A study by Jo Sanders, an authority on gender equity and technology, revealed that girls like to work collaboratively while boys preferred to work individually. These data are helping those who are strategizing on how to reach both with technology.
A nationwide effort is underway to get girls interested in STEM subjects--science, technology, engineering and math. Through a grant from the National Science Foundation, middle school girls are gaining interest in STEM through simulating a company making digital games, from design to marketing.
Girls like the project because they love to create and it’s believed that catching them at that age may help them in choosing a career path.
Needless to say, boys are really into the mathematics of a baseball course at Michigan Virtual University. In online learning like traditional approaches, the content makes the difference.
