One of the advantages of home video is that it frequently allows us to compare different versions of the same film.
A case in point this week is the release to video of The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 (above), a slick 2009 remake of the 1974 movie about the hijacking of a New York City subway train.
Many of those who've screened the newer version, co-starring John Travolta (pictured) and Denzel Washington, believe it to be superior to the original that starred Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw.

Among other new video releases is an unusual documentary called Food Inc., a sobering study of the industrial complex that takes food from farm to market and then to our table. A truthful film but difficult to watch.
Of a more general nature is season one of the animated TV series "Star Wars -- The Clone Wars."
Also out: the high school comedy I Love You Beth Cooper and a collection of High School Musicals.
