Business owners in Old City are annoyed at one of their neighbors and the city for closing off Market Street during the morning rush hour in the middle of a Septa strike.
"Communication is key."
Cynthia Philo, President and CEO of the Old City District, says no one informed her group in a timely fashion that Market Street was going to be closed Friday from 6am to 10am between 3rd and 4th streets for a Fox 29 promotion. Philo got wind of the event late Thursday.:
"I contacted both the city and tried to call Fox News but couldn't get through to the general number. I contacted the traffic division of the police and by the time I received notice that there was going to be a street closure it was the evening hours."
And everyone had gone home. Owners and workers, she says, came back this morning having to hop scotch through traffic and crowds.
"When you have employees that are trying to come down here and get into work. It's hard for them to do that when the road is closed and they have to go around someplace else and you've got the increase of cars due to the Septa strike."
Philo believes the city should have told Fox 29 to postpone the event until after the strike ends.
