Non-Profit to Send 2009 Phillies Items to Countries in Need

by KYW’s Michelle Durham

Disappointed Phillies fans may be comforted to know that the World Champion t-shirts and other items that should have been on their backs will now be sent to poor countries around the world.

The Christian relief organization World Vision was delighted to receive the Phillies items.  Corporate Relations Senior Director Jeff Fields explains where they will go:

"This year we're going to send some to Indonesia to help out with some of the disasters that recently happened there. Then when we know what the total amount of product, we'll determine what other countries we can service. We are looking at Nicaragua, Romania and Zambia as some other options."

Fields says many of the people who will receive Phillies items have never had new clothing before:

"This is truly a life changing deal for them. A lot of times it can even be life changing enough where they feel good about themselves to have something to wear like that where they'll go to school, have better attendance so it really makes a major difference in their lives."
