Israel's PM Heads to DC, Possible Meeting with President
|
by KYW’s Mideast Bureau Chief Jay Bushinsky
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu heads to Washington on Sunday to address a Jewish gathering at a delicate time in US efforts to restart Middle East peace talks.
One of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's main objectives in going to the United States is to confer with President Obama. But as the Israeli leader prepared to board his plane there still was no official confirmation that the rendezvous would take place.
The state radio said it was set for the day after his arrival. However, one of Netanyahu's spokesmen was not sure. Two subjects seem to have the highest priority: the consequences of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' announcement that he will not run for another term and Iran's insistence on continuing its uranium enrichment program.
