Philadelphia police say a 39th district police officer is lucky.
He suffered only minor injuries during an attempt to stop a suspected stolen car in Germantown early Tuesday morning.
Police say the officer and his partner had stopped a red Mercedes-Benz near Wayne Avenue and Apsley Street around 1:30am. The driver handed one officer a drivers license and then pulled off.
One officer clung to the hood of the car and was dragged several feet before falling to the ground. The officer's partner then fired his gun at the vehicle as it sped away.
Investigators say there were two men and a woman in the car which was last seen heading north on Chelten Avenue. The three were at large as of Tuesday morning.
Authorities have the drivers license and were looking for the person it belongs to.
The car was found abandoned hours after the incident in the unit block of West Rittenhouse Street.
Police believe the Mercedes was stolen from a car lot in the 5200 block of Concord Street in Germantown.
The injured officer returned to duty Tuesday morning following treatment at Albert Einstein Medical Center.
