Dad Vail Regatta Organizers to Meet with Phila. Officials
Organizers of the Dad Vail Regatta were to meet with the city on Friday, as the regatta committee decides whether to move the historic rowing competition to Monmouth County, NJ.
A decline in corporate contributions along with rising fees and costs from the City of Philadelphia reportedly have the Dad Vail Organizing Committee considering moving next year's regatta.
Rumson, NJ mayor John Ekdahl says the committee explored relocating the Dad Vail to his town, Princeton, Atlanta and Tampa:
"We've been told recently that we were the final selection if they decide to move it."
Ekdahl says Rumson sent the Dad Vail Committee $100,000:
"As a gesture of goodwill and, I guess, proof that we could do the fund raising that's necessary, yes, we did make that deposit."
Dad Vail Organizing Committee chair Jack Galloway declined to comment. The Dad Vail has been in Philadelphia since 1953.
