The recent "Sex and a Healthier You" survey found that 70-percent of women experienced a sexual health issue but less then 1/5th of them actually went to their doctor about it. There is a seminar taking place on Friday night in Philadelphia and officials hope women will attend to learn more about this vital part of their health.
Dr. Susan Kellogg is director of Sexual Medicine, co-founder the Pelvic and Sexual Health Institute and a Professor at Drexel University College of Medicine. She conducted the survey -- 1,200 women were questioned between the ages of 18 and 50 were asked why they didn't women go to their doctor about these problems:
"We found that some of the women were embarrassed to bring it up. Others thought wasn't there wasn't a medical answer to what they were experiencing. Others thought they would embarrass their health care provider by bringing it up."
Kellogg calls this a "teachable moment" and hopes that women will attend the conference to learn more about this aspect of their health:
"We're going to be defining areas of female sexual dysfunction and concern so that women can really understand and we are going to be giving some tips."
