If you’re thinking about a non-traditional Thanksgiving, Jay Lloyd has a getaway idea that might just inspire you to give up the turkey.

OK, here's the choice. Another turkey? Or some fine French food at a candlelit table overlooking a Laurentian Mountain lake, shimmering in the moonlight?
La Porte Rouge, below Quebec’s towering Mont Tremblant, wins that one hands down.
The big question is, will there be snow under skis on Thanksgiving Day? We’ve never been disappointed.
And with room rates going for as low as $60 Canadian (currently about US$57) per night for two during the Thanksgiving weekend, just being there -- enjoying the incredible culinary art of French Canada and the lively night scene -- would still make the trip worthwhile.
We generally stay with Canadian friends at Tremblant and dine at La Porte Rouge, which offers comfortable accommodations, close to the mountain, in a dynamic setting.
Tremblant Village (in photo), at the base of the mountain, is designed for pedestrians, with easy access to lifts and 95 spectacular trails.
It's a perfect chance to for an early romp in the snow, and a European experience within a day’s drive of Philadelphia.
