Two Delaware County teenagers have been charged with the murder in Chester of a woman who was hit by a stray bullet on Sunday while she lay in bed.
Officials say 17-year-old Abdul Johnson of Chester and 19-year-old Dominique Smith of Trainer, in custody since Tuesday on drug charges, have now been charged with the murder of Kathy Stewart, 48. Stewart was in bed in her mother's home when she was shot by a bullet that had pierced the wall and headboard. Stewart, who cared for her 85-year-old mother, who is suffering from cancer, died from her wound this past Tuesday.
Delaware County District Attorney Mike Green discusses the charges:
"We charged each of them with criminal homicide, murder of the first degree, murder of the second degree, and a number of related offenses, including the discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure."
Green credits neighbors with providing authorities with important information in connection with the crime.
