The Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia hosts its annual Hall of Fame dinner on Friday evening. Among the inductees, someone who you’re probably quite familiar with -- at least if you listen to KYW Newsradio every morning.
Accuweather meteorologist Elliot Abrams can be quite the character when he wants to.
Take a couple weeks ago, when it was “National Saxaphone Day”
"Along the Northeast coast, it’s not raining to beat the band and for today, just chilly wood winds out there."
But punning aside:
"I most enjoy trying to help people get through their day. It might be raining. It might be snowing. It might be hot. How can I explain things so that, maybe, things are a little easier for them."
A Philly native, he co-founded AccuWeather’s radio service in 1971. He joins the likes of Lisa Thomas Laury and Renee Chenault-Fattah on the dais this evening in Bala, where original Wibbage “Good Guy” Bill Wright Sr. receives the group’s Person of the Year award.
Proceeds from the dinner help fund college scholarships for future broadcasters..
