Soon to Come, Pedicabs to Philadelphia
|
by KYW’s Mike Dunn
Pedal power is booming in Philadelphia: City Council has approved -- and the mayor is likely to sign -- a bill that allows companies to ferry tourists around in pedal-powered vehicles called "Pedicabs."
The vote was unanimous as City Council approved a measure that allows for pedicab routes throughout the city. The author of the measure, Councilperson Blondell Reynolds Brown, believes pedicabs will be a viable choice for tourists and residents alike:
"I'm thrilled about the notion that we will begin to see many of them very, very, very soon, once it moves through the mayor's desk. And the Streets Department has outlined specifically what routes they will take in the tourist district."
Pedicabs hold up to four passengers and are widely used in other cities. A spokesperson said Mayor Nutter plans to sign the measure into law.
