Pa. and NJ Governors Meet to Discuss Issues Including Del. River Dredging

by KYW's Kim Glovas

It was a meeting of the minds in Morrisville (Bucks County), Pa. on Monday -- or perhaps not -- as Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell and New Jersey governor-elect Chris Christie met officially to talk about issues of concern to both states.

Rendell says the issues the two men talked about included dredging of the Delaware River, even though Pennsylvania is for it and New Jersey is against it:

“I assured Governor-elect Christie that Pennsylvania is still absolutely clear that we want to go forward, regardless of the lawsuits that have been filed. If the dredging is not stopped by the lawsuits, we want to impanel a joint oversight committee with Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvaniall all sharing in the environmental oversight of the dredging process.”

Christie, for his part, focused on how Pennsylvaniia has had great success with economic opportunity zones and new "green" industries. He is hoping to be able to reproduce that success in New Jersey -- and even compete with Pennnsylvannia for those businesses.
