A public interest watchdog group has released its 24th annual "Trouble in Toyland" report -- warning the public about dangerous toys as the holiday approaches.
At the St. Peter's School in Society Hill, Fisher-Price's "Laugh and Learn Learning Phone" (right) was among the toys flagged by the Pennsylvania Public Interest Research Group that could be harmful to your child -- in this case because of high decibel level.
Catherine Ngo (at left in top photo) is the group's field organizer:
"We found toys like this one in store shelves that may not meet these standards. In fact, this toy cell phone right here will obviously be held close to a child's ears, and it exceed 85 decibels when measured at a close range."
Toys that pose choking hazards were also addressed. Ngo says you can use something found around the house to determine if a toy is unsafe for toddlers:
"An empty toilet paper roll. If a toy fits in this tube, it's too small for a child under three."
Lead or other toxic chemicals were also found in some toys, including the "Elmo lunch bag," manufactured by Sassy (right).
