Phila. Foundation Seeks Help in Assisting Area's Neediest
|
by KYW's Karin Phillips
The Philadelphia Foundation wants to give $500,000 to the region's neediest and wants your help.
Through December 31st, the Philadelphia Foundation will match the contributions given to its Basic Human Needs Fund, which helps organizations that defray the basic expenses for heat, light, food, shelter and clothing for those who need it.
This year, the foundation hopes to match up to $250,000 so, come January, a half million dollars will go to these organizations. Andrew Swinney, president of the foundation, says the effects of the matching can't be underestimated:
"We received a $50 check with a note that said I'm unemployed, but I was so moved by the fact that you were going to match the donation, I could help but write you a check."
