Mayor Nutter says it is still undecided whether the City of Philadelphia will host an alternative to the Dad Vail Regatta, now that the famed Schuylkill River event (above) has decided to move to North Jersey.
The mayor has been holding talks with officials of local universities about the viability of an alternate regatta on the Schuylkill. Dad Vail organizers are pulling up anchor and moving to Rumson, NJ for the May 2010 event (see related story).
Nutter says he still does not know if the local schools will stay here or take part in the Dad Vail, in New Jersey:
"It ultimately comes down to the schools, who are also trying to make a decision as to what they're doing in terms of the proposed other city or other site. And I don't know at the moment that many of the schools have made a decision one way or the other, because they're still trying to figure it out."
Rumson lured the Dad Vail away with promises of $250,000 in funding. The regatta has been on the Schuylkill River since 1953.
