Dying Man Robbed in Phila. Hospital ER Waiting Room

by KYW's Jim Melwert

A Philadelphia man died in an emergency room waiting-area over the weekend.  Some people noticed him, but instead of getting help, police say they robbed him.

Around 10:45 on Saturday night, a 63-year-old man went to the emergency room at Aria Health's Frankford campus with chest and arm pains.  But police Lt. Frank Vanore says when three people realized the man was unconscious, they stole his watch instead of going for help:

"They passed it around, and then at one point, the white male was taken back to see a doctor, the black male and the female did leave the hospital with the complainant's belonging."

Hospital personnel were alerted.  The victim was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

The one suspect, 44-year-old Richard Alten (in photo above), was arrested at the hospital. Police are looking for the other suspect, described as a light skinned black male, about 30-years of age, 5'8" about 160 pounds. He was wearing a green jacket, black pants and sneakers, and walking with a limp.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance tape.
