Loneliness is contagious. That's according to a new study from The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
The University of Chicago report took a look at lonely people and studied them and their lifestyle. What they found is that lonely people have few social ties to begin with and their feelings of loneliness make them more likely to sever ties -- that means that many of their friends and associates also tend to feel more lonely.
The researchers actually followed the social ties situation and reported it over several decades, and they found feelings of loneliness could be compounded by 10, 20 and 100 fold.
