Cardinal Justin Rigali celebrated mass and brought his Christmas message to several dozen inmates at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Eagleville on Wednesday.
Cardinal Rigali has made prison visits part of his Christmas ministry during his six years as Archbishop of Philadelphia. This was his first visit to the Montgomery County prison.
The Cardinal told the men and women there that they should feel the love of God, even though they are in prison.
He says part of the Christian tradition is to show concern for prisoner:
"The best way we can show concern is to bring them the message of Jesus Christ, the message of salvation, the message of the birth of the savior.”
Inmate Peter DiGregorio says inmates many times feel forgotten and alone this time of year:
"In a place like this, there’s a lot of animosity between people. I mean, we’re confined in a place but today we’re all brothers and there’s peace in this place today.”
