As temperatures head into the mid-90s on Independence Mall, horse and carriage tours may come to a halt.
Linda Kramer is the manager of 76 Carriage Company. She says when the temperature reaches 92 degrees the horses do not work:
"We use KYW's temperature on the mall. That’s the temperature we use to monitor them."
She says the carriage drivers are having a tough time making money this summer, not only with the hot weather but with thunder and lighting storms:
"You know, obviously with thunder and lightening, we don't want them to be out there. So we are looking forward to Labor Day and the fall season when it’s cooler and we don't have such severe weather. This has been a particularly rough summer for them.”
Even some wedding transportation plans had to be altered due to the weather conditions this summer; horse and carriages rides had to be switched for trolleys and double decker buses.
