A four-alarm fire in Delran, NJ is under investigation. Two firefighters had to be treated for dehydration as they battled the blaze under Sunday's scorching sun at a large apartment complex.
As the fire hoses doused the smoldering building in the Hunters Glen complex, weary firefighters chugged water:
“It's not the best weather to be doing this.”
Delran fire chief Dave Kinney says they have to be careful in this weather and work in shifts:
“That's the reason we have so many people here.”
And why it went to four alarms? At least a dozen apartments were destroyed.
Everyone got out safely. Cecile lived in the apartment directly above the one where the fire started and says the smoke detector did not work:
“I was about to move this Wednesday and now I'm burned out of everything due to negligence all around.”
She blames the complex for renting apartments to too many tenants:
“Ten to twelve people in apartments.”
A manager on the site didn't know how many people were living in the one-bedroom apartment where the fire started. She said they'd make other apartments available for displaced residents.
